Tuberculosis outbreak in a school in Tashkent

    The news has spread on social media that tuberculosis has been detected in one of the secondary schools in Tashkent.

    In connection with this situation, the Ministry of Health reports the following.

    It turned out that M.S., a student of the 11th grade of secondary school No. 59 in Shaikhantokhur district, applied to Tashkent City Phthisiological Dispensary No. 3 on December 26, 2024.

    According to the patient's older sister, M.S. had been ill frequently in recent months and sought treatment only at private clinics. After the last examination by an ENT doctor, she was referred to the phthisiological dispensary No. 3.

    As a result of an X-ray examination at the dispensary, she was diagnosed with "inflamed tuberculosis of the upper lobe of the right lung, decompensated stage" and the patient was immediately hospitalized in the Tashkent Children's Tuberculosis Hospital.

    On December 27, 2024, an X-ray examination of 6 people (two of them children under 6 years old) who had been in contact with the patient at home was conducted at the phthisiological dispensary No. 3, according to the results of which active tuberculosis was not detected in them.

    Students and teachers of secondary school No. 59 who came into contact with the patient and are at risk of infection, as well as a private school where the patient attended additional classes, were also checked. X-ray and diaskin tests were performed at the phthisiological dispensary No. 3.

    During the examination, one schoolgirl (A.A., born in 2008, a close friend of the patient M.S.) was diagnosed with "focal tuberculosis of the upper lobe of the right lung" and she was hospitalized.

    Preventive treatment procedures have also been initiated for 3 schoolchildren - AA, RM and ED and 1 teacher in connection with the identification of their predisposition to the disease.

    In connection with the identified shortcomings, the Tashkent City Administration of the State Committee for Educational and Welfare has drawn up an administrative protocol against the director of secondary school No. 59.

    Major repairs are currently underway at secondary school No. 59 under the state program, so primary school students at this educational institution study at secondary school No. 115, and high school students continue their studies at secondary school No. 82 in Shaikhantaur district.

    On January 21, disinfection measures were repeated at secondary school No. 82. On January 22, 2025, general cleaning and ventilation measures were carried out.

    Also, on January 23, appropriate disinfection measures were re-organized at secondary school No. 115.
